We have changed our CF replacement cartridges to a new and improved version for all CF filters. They are 100% compatible with original CF filters. The filtration performance of the new Coir-Tech cartridges works to the same standard as the previous polymer cartridges.
Just replace them monthly for the same great results and crystal clear aquarium water.
The same great performance for crystal clear and healthy aquarium water

One of the biggest advantages of upgrading to Bio-CF’s Coir-Tech Cartridges is the environmental impact. Traditional plastic filter cartridges can take up to 1,000 years to decompose, contributing to long-term waste in landfills. In contrast, our bio-degradable coir cartridges are made from natural coconut fibre, which can break down in as little as 2 years when composted. This significant reduction in decomposition time makes the Bio-CF system a natural alternative, helping you maintain a cleaner aquarium while reducing your carbon footprint.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Why are the Coir Tech cartridges black?
The Coir Tech cartridges are black because they have been coated in a layer of carbon which is naturally black. Carbon is used as a chemical filter material which removes dyes, odours and impurities.
What are the Coir Tech cartridges made from?
Coir Tech cartridges are made from coconut fibre, natural latex and carbon.
Can I wash and reuse my Coir Tech cartridges?
They are designed to be replaced after 28 days, but the coconut is a strong natural fibre and will last much longer than the 28 days as long as it’s not washed. They are not designed to be cleaned to be repeatedly reused as they are decomposable and will then need to be replaced.
Are the Coir Tech cartridges as good as the original CF plastic cartridges?
The coir tech cartridges have been extensively tested against the original CF plastic cartridges and perform better in filtration, both in terms of water clarity and water quality. They also have no effect on the aquarium eco system.
How long does it take for the coir tech cartridges to naturally decompose?
The Coir Tech cartridges can take up to 5-8 years to naturally decompose depending on the environment they are in. The hotter and wetter the environment, the quicker they degrade.
How to responsibly dispose of your Coir Tech cartridges?
If possible, use a home compost bin to compost the Coir Tech cartridges. If a home compost bin is not possible, they can in most cases be put in your general waste bin as this will be used for green energy. Contact your local council for recycling advice.
Why does my Coir Tech cartridge float, when using for the first time?
Submerge the Coir Tech cartridge under water for 5 seconds to expel any trapped air in the coconut fibre before inserting into the Bio CF filter.
Why are there some fibres being produced from the coir tech cartridge when first opening from the box?
This is normal as coconut is made from a natural fibrous material, rinse under water for 5 seconds before inserting into the Bio CF filter. After extensive testing these fibres do not enter into the aquarium itself but are trapped in the Coir Tech cartridge which make it a great filtration material.
I have an original CF Filter, will the Coir Tech cartridges still fit?
The Coir Tech cartridges will fit all the original CF filters, without the need of a conversion kit.
When do you need a Bio CF conversion kit?
The conversion kits are optional. The coir cartridges fit perfectly into the original CF Filter without the conversion kit. It just allows you to remove the cartridges without getting your fingers wet!
For best results use the coir cartridges along with Interpet Clean Aquarium Pods

Clean Aquarium Pods eliminate sludge, bioactivate filters, feed aquatic plants, make tap water safe, and reduce aquarium maintenance —all while being safe for fish, plants, invertebrates and shrimp.
Each pod dissolves quickly in water, breaking down sludge and waste, bioactivating your filter with beneficial bacteria and providing essential nutrients to plants. The pods also make tap water safe by neutralising harmful chlorine and removing heavy metals, ensuring a stress-free environment for fish during water changes. Safe for freshwater fish, plants, and invertebrates—including shrimp.
Clean Aquarium Pods reduce the need for frequent maintenance, keeping your tank clean and thriving.
